Raphel hooked us up with internet and was very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. He knows what he is doing. Very happy with his service

RCN , You need to address the fact that you do not carry any conservative news sources such as Newsmax or OAN. Your competitors in this area all carry one or both. I , as like many other customers will consider other options.

what is going on no 800 service at our business

I have been trying to reach all three 800/877 numbers for RCN for the past two weeks and have been unsuccessful on numerous attempts. I am moving in seven days and need to arrange for the return of equipment.

RCN is the worst company ever. I had service on 2009 and was moving apartments and needed to cancel my service. I called every number I could find with no answer. 3 years later they sent me to collections for services I didn't use and a modem that I could not return because nobody would answer. I repeat RCN is the worst company ever, stay clear.

I've been on hold for over 20 minutes with customer service when all of a sudden while watching an On Demand program the show and my entire cable just stopped working. This is great. I love waiting around for someone who may or may not take my call while my TV doesn't work. I thought they were supposed to be better than other cable providers.

I SADLY HAVE BEEN W/ RCN FOR AWHILE--MY CONDO BUILDING IS WIRED W/THEM. I'VE ALREADY DROPPED MY PHONE SERV CAUSE THEIR BILLING KEPT GETTING WORSE. I USED TO HAVE DIAL UP FOR COMPUTER(I'M NOT ON IT MUCH) THEN ONE DAY I COULDN'T LOG IN. I CALLED CUST SERV AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY. THIS WENT ON OVER A MONTH TIL I FINALLY CONTACTED CORP WHO SAID RCN NO LONGER OFFERS DIAL UP. THEY NEVER SENT/CALLED ANYTHING AND THEIR REPS HAD NO IDEA. THAT'S HOW THEIR SERV IS--OR LACK THERE OF. ANOTHER TIME I PAID MY BILL OVER PHONE AND THE REP WHO PULLED UP MY ACC APPLIED MY PAYMENT TO SOMEONE ELSE. WHEN I GOT MY NEXT BILL AND ZERO PAYMENT LISTED I CALLED CUST SERV W/ AMOUNT AND APP. CODE AND THEY SAID THEY'D INVESTIGATE BUT UNTIL RESOLVED MY ACC WAS NOW PAST DUE. IT TOOK THEM FOUR MONTHS. WE PAY THEIR SALARY AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CUST SERV MEANS. THEIR MOTTO IS "CONNECT TO SOMETHING MORE" MORE RUN AROUND BULLSIT IS ALL I'VE KNOWN. LIKE THREE DAYS AGO I EMAILED THEIR CONTACT US PAGE W/ QUESTIONS ON VOD. THEY SENT A CONF REPLY THAT ONE OF THEIR PROFESSIONAL STAFF WILL RESPOND W/IN TWENTY FOUR HRS. STILL NO REPLY. AGAIN ZERO CUST SERV CONCERN

I've been very satisfied with RCN Service. They responded promptly to a newly installed cable box not working and also were quick to replace parts outside the house that had been shorted out during a lightning storm. Rates have gone up a little faster than I would have liked, but not unreasonable.
I'm moving to a location that does not have RCN service, so I called to cancel and it couldn't have been easier. The Customer Service Rep answered promptly and I did not spend any time on hold.

Noted with new bill that supposed increase in price due to "increased programming license fees" (mostly for sports, which I could not care less), included being charged for digital converter rental. This was previously included in digital cable service bundle. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH INCREASED LICENSE FEES. Customer service rep unhelpful but sympathetic and bumped me up to her supervisor, Mary Jane, who was a rude @#$% and also unhelpful. MJ's supervisor, Angela, supposedly out of office. RCN's customer service SUCKS and all they do when they jack their prices is try to cover up where the increase actually is.

Trying to contact a person in customer service in order to cancel my service....sat on hold listening to their repetative tape for over 25 minutes and then I finally got a person who just kept saying making excuses for well over 15 minutes about how he could not complete my service call because he was having trouble with his computer system. Not a very good advertisment if their own computers are that messed up.

I've been with StarPower, now RCN, for over 7 years. The only thing that would make me happier is if they'd speed up the support for HBOGo! Other than that, they truly have been a great service company. I have a bundle that includes Internet, cable and phone. Services rarely go down and come back up quickly, when they do. They negotiate pricing and are always less than Comcast or Verizon. They even let me lock in for 2 years (I prefer to negotiate as infrequently as possible). Basically, you tell them how much you're willing to spend per month, and they craft a heavily discounted package for you. I've done this several times. The Internet connection is fast with low latency, and occasionally they upgrade the speed for no extra charge, I was recently bumped to 15Mb/s from 10Mb/s. The HD channels look great. All the free on-demand programming is great, too. I'm in Bethesda, MD and I'm not sure if I've been lucky or if service here is better than other places, but really, it is good.

I recently discontinued my RCN service and received a bill on a previous account number from 2003. I have spoken with the billing dept. several times. They promised to investigate my case and call back within 24 hours. They never called back ever. Instead, I received a Notice of Final Demand and then a collection notice. I keep calling them. They all state they will get back to me promptly, but never do. Their customer service and communications are extremely poor. All I want is an explanation of the bill. I am willing to pay if they can show me that I really owe them any money. I have reported them to NYS Public Service Comm. and NYS Dept. of Information Technology and Telecommunications. I have written to their corporate office in Wilkes Barre. I have written to the collection agency. RCN is its own worse enemy.

Wow! I thought you were describing VERIZON! My family, some friend, and I had horrible service and "product" from VERIZON. I switched to RCN about three years ago. When a problem arises, I get cooperation and service. If something needs further attention, they help me. Suggestions to help you get help - 1) Call the correct number (tech for tech, billing for billing), 2) Describe problem carefully (so they can triage the call), 3) Rent the provider's router (so they don't blame your equipment and to minimize chance of being billed for tech call), 4) Ask tech for direct phone line or extension to tech (in case you have further problems), 5) Get related work (such as hard-wiring into another room) done by the provider (which is usually done cheaper and prevents later tech blame-and-bill issues)...

I too was a RCN/Starpower subscriber for about 10 yrs. Went to Comcast after my rates got out of hand. Oddly, things didn't work out with Comcast, so I'm back with RCN. In my locale, I have only these two companies to choose from. I ordered the Internet & phone pkg (59.99/3 yrs.). I also requested the wireless router add-on (4.95/mo.). Thinking better of it, before my install date, I called to cancel the router add-on portion of the service. I was told it was too late to change the order, but, just tell the tech not to install the router he brings. So I did. I had purchased a router to use instead of theirs. To make a long story short, I am now being charged for the router that was included with the order, even though I have informed several people, several different times in Cust. Svc. that I wanted to cancel the router add-on, because I was using my own router. Their response was, the router in question has to be "located" in order to be removed from my account. Sad to say, this "locating" process had been going on for almost a month now. RIDICULOUS!!

They are fairly lax in terms of coming out and helping through normal channels. It seems they want to try the same basic operations each time I call for an issue without regard to past history.
They have been decent about equipment returns or exchanges - very simple and easy.
They are not great, but they are much, much, much better than Comcast (which was horrific).

I completely agree. Rcn is the worst piece of s@&t company that there is. All good stations are bundled into packs like family pack which does not even offer the family channel. The top package doesn't even give all channels you have to pay extra for mtv2. They advertise they are cheaper than comcast what a joke. I pay more with rcn and get even less channels. And the best thing for the true blood fans on hbo. Don't leave the house on Sunday's if you watch because rcn can't record the show due to liscensing with hbo. How horrible .

RCN is really the worst company, and whoever makes policy decisions is plain stupid. Unfortunately, I live in a building that has only contracted with RCN, so I am FORCED to have it if I want cable service. In the meantime, I will do my best to publicize how truly AWFUL this company is so others can avoid using RCN if they have a choice. For example, they recently started offering the Tivo as a DVR-option, but you can only get RCN's Tivo if you also opt-in for their internet service. I did not want RCN's internet service (anymore), so I bought my own Tivo and pay 12.95/mo directly to Tivo versus 19.95 to RCN, and RCN still has to provide the m-card (decoder card), and as a result of their idiotic policy, they are making $1.50/month off of me when they could be making $19.95 a month off of me if they weren't such dicks about trying to force me into using their internet service (Side bar: I stopped using their internet service when it was out for two weeks, and their tech support in India kept telling me it was the wiring in my apartment, that I could pay for a technician to come out and test the wiring...as it turns out a fiber optic line had been damaged somewhere in the world, and I spent weeks wasting my time on the phone with people in India who read from a script---they want me to pay a monthly fee for this?) Back to the DVR, though...I gave them back their piece of crap Motorola DVR that I was leasing for 20 bucks a month. (They lose, I win.) That saves me $66 dollars a year (a good Sushi meal for me). On the subject of the m-card...cable companies are required by FCC law to provide the decoder card if you purchase your own DVR option. I asked them to send me the m-card, and they said I could only get the m-card if I paid them $50 for a technician to deliver and install it. Installation by the way amounts to inserting a metal card into a PCMCIA slot on the DVR...no more difficult than inserting a card into your laptop. They must be on crack if they think I was going to pay them 50 dollars for this. I threatened to cancel service altogether and stream my shows on Hulu if they did not waive the charge.

My next complaint is about the HBO Go application now available to HBO subscribers. Oh wait...not to RCN subscribers. In terms of being cool and hip and having lots of options for their consumers, RCN is quite the opposite. No cool apps for your Android or iPad. No integration with cool new services like HBO Go. You get the down and dirty, no frills, all chills, nadaliciousness. And cable companies find it surprising that subscribers are dropping like flies for much cheaper streaming options like Netflix and Huluplus?

Absolutely the worst customer service out there! I recently moved to my area and contacted RCN about new service. I was told they would be at my house on said day at said time. Well after taking a day off of work and waiting nobody shows up. I call them and they tell me "oh no body called you we need a payment before we come out there" Now this wouldn't have been a problem had they told me this in advance but intead I miss an entire days pay with no resolution to this issue and now I keep calling their local office and nobody will pick up because they know they're in the wrong. Bunch of low life running this company that could absolutely care less about they're customers/prospective customers!. I will bad mouth this company until they go out of business or I die. You suck RCN and I will let anyone willing to listen hear it!

Rcn has got to be the worst service I have ever encountered. They damaged my wall during installation then gave me the runaround to get it repaired all while harassing me for payment. How dare they think that I should continue giving them my money in a timely fashion when I can't even get a returned call regarding the damage. I am so frustrated.

Can't agree more with those who have had poor service - it is the worst I have ever had to deal with. Four different people gave 4 different reasons for our problems and none of them solved the issue. I can't wait until I move and no longer have to deal with them. I certainly would never recommend them to my worst enemy!!
