We have had a BT Telephone for our business for a while now and we've just enabled Caller ID and we've connected the cables to our computer but it only shows the Caller ID some of the time. We believe the cable we have might be broken because we've already sent the computer to be checked to have it come back saying it's working as it should be. The Caller ID works on the telephone but the cable connecting it to the computer is most likely broken.

1. If I miss a call and dial 1471 I may be given the callers number. If I do not recognise the number how can I check who the caller is before I decide whether or not I wish to call back?
2. I am constantly being pestered by cold calls from what sounds like an Indian call-centre. If I dial 1471 I am told that they do not have the callers number. Is there any service or device available which can intercept incoming calls and block those that refuse to identify themselves?
