Thrifty Car Rental Problem

Smoker car vehicle made my wife physically sick. We picked up in Glendale AZ with plans to drop off in Jackson WY. Once the air conditioner was turned (1 hour into our trip) on the smell was overwhelming. I called Thrifty while on the road. The nearest Thrifty location would be in Salt Lake Utah and we were to exchange the car there. We were told we should expect a credit for the one-way drop off fee.

Once at Salt Lake I was told they could not make a change in mid-contract and the credit would be taken care of at the Jackson airport. I have rented cars at the Jackson airport in the past and have always dropped them off at the airport. I was not told otherwise. My wife and I were in Yellowstone National Park that morning and had no cell reception.

Our flight was at 3:30pm Monday June 16th. I arrived 2 hours early and could not locate anyone from Thrifty. I finally located a Thrifty phone and the number was disconnected. Now what? I called the national number and was on hold for nearly 15 minutes waiting for someone to pick up. Finally a young lady answered (who I could barely understand). She simply said take the car back into Jackson and catch the shuttle back to the airport. I could have done this if the phone in the airport worked or I was told in advance. It was close to time to board the plane, what was I to do?

I finally reached the local Jackson office and was told to leave the car there and call them back with the location where I parked the car. It was full of gas when left but no one to show the gas receipt to.

OK, that's the beginning....

When I called the local Jackson Thrifty rental location I spoke with Jessie who identified himself as the manager. He was very condescending and disrespectful! He didn't care but gave excuses and no solutions. I was charged 2 drop off fees that he says was justified. He also charged me a fee to pick up the car at the airport which was less than 10 miles from their location in Jackson. As to a refund or credit for my wife's reaction to the smoke smell - forget it. This man should not have his job! He does a disservice to Thrifty.

Bottom Line: A refund is due since the first drop off was simply an exchange due to the car smell. A refund is due for the charge to pick up the car at the Jackson airport. A refund is due to the horrible smell we had to endure while driving from Phoenix to Salt Lake. If we had time I would have turned around and returned the car to the Phoenix location

To add insult to injury ââ?¬â?? I left behind my personal Garman GPS in the center console of the car. When I inquired about it no one saw it. How very convenient! Never should anyone use Thrifty Car Rental if these issues are not cleared up.

DO NOT RENT '“ DO NOT RENT '“ DO NOT RENT --- WORST SERVICE EVER including CUSTOMER NO SERVICE. THIS HAS TO BE THE WORST BUSINESS EVER. NO NOT RENT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE OVER CHARGED, INSULTED AND TOLD THAT YOU AGREED TO THIS TREATMENT WHEN YOU SIGNED THEIR AGREEMENT.
Arrived at Philly airport, after a looooooong wait for shuttle van and ride to rental station we, along with others were told that they we not honoring the reservation because they did not have cars. We were told only after a substantial wait because the counter agents were ignoring customers and telling customers that they were rude for asking questions on when cars would be available, faking contact with manager when asked to get manager and very patronizing. After an hour we got a dirty older car with 58,000 miles. No help, no apologies. Additionally, with a confirmation that did not include a Customer Facility Change of $40 we were informed that they could not remove but by calling the toll number it would be removed. Call toll number and they will not remove.

experienced traveler and 5th Cabo trip longtime Bluechip Member. Do not rent from Thrifty in Cabo. I booked a one week rental for a full size car total with tax $115. Arrived and was told that the liability insurance was mandatory and $37 per day. I remember purchasing liability in Cabo and it was $10-$15 per day. So the rental was $14 per day and the insurance $37 for a standard size car? We were traveling with 3 kids on 4 hours of sleep and just wanted to get to the resort. I argued but ultimately took the standard size car knowing I would work it out at return. I called Thrifty the next day and after several transfers, two disconnects they said I would need to work it out with the local Thrifty. At drop off the attendant pulled my record and the bill was $490 and he looked puzzled. I said the insurance amount should be $12 per day and he agreed. I asked him why the $37 per day charges and he said extra pay. Must be some sort of bonus program for defrauding customers in Mexico. He said don't worry about signing the return receipt and to work it out with my credit card. I left without signing the receipt and call Thrifty. I couldn't get anyone at Thrifty. They have one of the worst customer call centers I've ever experienced. Ultimately I verified the insurance at $12 per day and call my credit card to refuse the overcharged amount.

thirty car rental is the most horrid company to use. they lack customer service and compassion. Their representatives lie. There is no communication between reservations and rental places. They are more then happy to leave you stranded in a foreign country. Once you make the reservation they wash their hands of you. Their party line is "nothing we can do". I will NEVER call them or EVER recommend them to anyone I know.

Twice, since November, Thrifty has said that we rented a car when, in fact, we did not. We signed an affidavit saying that we did not rent this vehicle. Now, we have gotten a toll charge for yet another rental car that we did not rent from Thrifty. When I call the numbers I have found, I get passed on to someone else who cannot help me. We are beyond frustrated and will never rent from this company again.

Dear Sir's

My name is Ross Greenville I rented a car from your San Francisco air port from 9/19/13

and returned it to the Los Angeles air port return office on 9/24/13.

When I called your union square office on 788-8111 I was told the mid size car was about $319 for the week with taxes would be $474.00 approx, unlimited millage and the normal insurance,I was given a booking number of FX3TNC. When I picked the car up I was told it was $614.20

for the days i needed it, as I was in a hurry I accepted the extra and the lady was not willing to listen to my explanation which I thought was very rude of her.

On returning the car to your Los Angeles air port office on W Century Blvd I was told it would cost $822.97 .

I was told to call 1-877-283-0898 and they would make the appropriate alterations, on calling that number from the air port I was told they could not help me but to email you my complaint, I told the gentleman the return office said that he could help but fell on deaf ears.

I am totally disappointed at the service I received , I called Hertz. Budget,Advance, Dollar a day and your company and chose Thrifty because of the rate I was given.

I have a rental record number of VU2781251 completed by HCUADT who ever that is.

I feel I have been misled in all respects and taken advantage of as an overseas visitor.

I would like a credit for the difference being $348.97 us dollars to my credit card.

If this has been sent to the wrong dept please send it on to the appropriate dept for me, Many Thanks

ripped off in Orlando. declined extra insurance but was charged anyway. they have my signature on a form that I never saw before. I signed an electronic pad but was not given a copy of their contract. charged for an upgrade at over $10 a day that I didn't ask for. I booked car on hotwire, I could have upgraded on hotwire for half thrifty's fee. seems to be a very common ripoff at thrifty! was refunded half the insurance fee. they must be used to the same complaints

BE WARNED! AFTER HOURS DROP OFF. We recently were charged a $150 drop off fee. Thifty indicated we dropped off at Terminal 1 when we dropped off at Terminal 2 per our contract. Our Southwest flight left at 6am and we were at the airport at 4:30 am. They do no staff the returns until 6am. Their records indicate we returned to Terminal 1 which would have been impossible since Southwest only flies out of Terminal 2. BE CAREFUL - they are obviously out to maximize their revenue. I had receipts and have disputed the charge with American Express but I am not holding my breath. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THRIFTY AGAIN - THEY ARE A JOKE. BE WARNED

DO NOT Rent a vehicle from these people, especially from the St. Louis airport area! The customer service sucks. I should have returned the car the first day I picked it up. Long story short: They disabled the car due to the incompetence of one their employeeS, this made me 45 minutes late to pick my children up from school. I then had to drive through rush hour traffic to go to their office to sign paperwork, that should have taken care 9 hours ago. After all that, the damn Kia Sorento broke down 2.5 hours away from home. My husband and I were stranded for four hours while waiting on them to get another Kia Sorento to us. My husband missed work and my children were not happy either. Corporate office informed me that it could take 5-7 days for the local office to get back with me and 7-10 for corporate. WTF, really. That's interesting because it only takes one minute to take the money out of my account. Compensation Pending!

Holding holding....my time is valuable. I have a Thrifty car issue unresolved for a month now. they have not reimbursed my credit card deposit (supposely to be reimbursed within 48 hrs. after returning their car). No help .I won't go with this company again for travel needs!

I too should have read this site before renting from Thrifty. I rented a car in San Francisco. Thrifty offers you the option of paying for a tranponder that will cost you 10.95/day for unlimited toll pass fees but they fail to mention that if you do not take this that the Golden Gate bridge does not accept cash and that if you go through the toll booth the license plate will be billed and then Thrifty will charge you for not only the toll cost (6 dollars) but will also charge you a 20.00 administration fee for each toll infraction they receive and have to pay. I have rented from other rental car companies in the bay area they have the transponder in the car and you pay whatever charges are added to that transponder. This lack of service and bogus charge to the customer is pretty criminal if you ask me. There is basically no way to avoid either a daily fee or an expensive/punitive admin fee. At a minimum the company should only charge a customer a one-time admin fee vs a 20 dollar hit for toll they have to pay. I will never rent from Thrifty ever again.

I rented a car online for $203.97 and returned it was a full tank of gas on time.

When I went to pay the bill on American Express, the amount was $400.03.

I had the car three days.

I am outraged and will never rent from this rip off, deceptive car rental company again.

I also might add I waited 25 minutes for the bus to take me to the rental agency,
and saw other car company rental shuttels circling at least twice before Thrifty bothered to come around.

We reserved a car 3 months in advance. When we picked it up from the airport in Phoenix we noticed that almost NO ONE was in your area except 2 customers, where as other car rental agencies had 15 or more. This should have been a red flag to us! Instead we went ahead a picked up our car and specifically told the agent that we DIDN'T WANT ANY EXTYRA INSURANCE OR EXTRA COVERAGE EXCEPT THAT WE WOULD PAY FOR FUEL. We didn't add my wife as as driver as we didn't want to pay the extra $11. per day. He said OK and then stated that I needed to sign eight places on the screen to complete the transaction. (I've never had to initial this many places before and the initials were always to deny coverage!!!) The agent then folded up the paper and placed it in the folder, said everything was taken care of and we then left. When we returned the car,TO OUR SURPRISE YOUR AGENT CHARGED US FOR ALL SORTS OF COVERAGE WHICH WE DIDN'T ASK FOR!!! WHICH DOUBLED OUR BILL!!!!! When we CONFRONTED THE EXACT SAME AGENT HE SAID WE INITIALED IT SO THEREFORE WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!!
We believe your agent lied to us and we told him that!!! Obviously, there was nothing we could do about it as there was NO manager available & we had to catch a flight!! We will NEVER do business with you and will tell everyone we know NOT TO DEAL WITH THRIFTY CAR RENTAL!!!!!

wow ... I am really embarrassed for Thrifty UK's representation of service to their loyal customers ... those who support your company and the UK economy.

Your lack of upholding Thrifty's integrity to do what is right and fair to your customers will inevitably win favor of doing business elsewhere. I am sad that you can't see how you manipulate and rob your customers. You are thieves.
In my case ... can you truly tell me that you, personally, would pay $1200.00 for 2 tires ... yeah, I didn't think so ... so why should I.

I do a lot of international travel and have been to the UK many, many times, supporting your struggling economy ... perhaps this is what you've come to in terms of spurring-up it up! ... here in America, we call that stealing.
Regardless ... what goes around, comes around. It is my sincerest hope that Thrifty UK tanks and the competitors are left lapping it up.

Just remember, we Americans have BIG mouths to spread warning of fowl-play ... good luck staying in business.

I guess I should have read all the terrible experiences.
What a rip off and the rude customer service does not help when calling the 1800 number. WOW can't believe a major company does not care the least about their clientele or reputation

I reserved a car a month in advances, and when I arrive the lady at the counter took my information and to me that in return of their vehicle the gas had to be filled, (which was typical) however she told me that they had gas prices 5 cents cheaper than in the city area...........BULL gas prices in the city area is 36 cent cheaper.

Also I was told that the unlimited mileage only cover the city area.....NEVER in my life had that been told to me. So the bordering state I couldn't even go....BULL, I came down to I was white and she was black, I was wrong and she made the rules.........Never would I have thought thrifty would do something like that. I'll never use thrifty, even if I have to pay twice the price...terrible PR. and they wanted to charge me for termination of reservation.

Terrible experince !!!!
I rent a car at Portland,Oregon on Feb 1 and I return it on Feb 3. I returned the car as it is.But when I return it the "manager" said that it has a body damage which I didn't know about. They didn't pre-inspectthe car before I rent it.No body showed me that was clean or no damage at the time fo renting. For that mater what they say was damaged you can't even see it unless you know it was there. He imediately spot the "damage" and he wanted to sign a papaer for that.
I use to work in transportation company a whiule ago .we show our customers every car all around it then we rent them.
But here the oppssite they didn't inspect and sign you a papaer at timt of rent but later.
On the top of that another guy came out and talk to like ....and told me to Back off."back off" really? I think that it a work place which you guys are depend on customers.Or you wouldn't have that job with out a cutomer.
Such a terrible experince I wouldn't recommed it to any one!

i made a reservation for 6 days rental in panama was quoted a price for 45.57. when i arrived in thrifty desk in panama i was informed that we are obligated to take one of their insurance packages, although i have informed them that i have full coverage with my credit card.we were told that we are unable to rent without purchasing their insurance which was an additional 16.99 per day. the total jumped from 45.57 for 6 day to 147.51. needless to say not wanting to ruin our vacation we had to agreed upon the charges. after looking through my charges i realized that we have been charged twice for the same rental. it has been a horrible experience. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THE HARDSHIP AND GO WITH A MORE REPUTABLE CAR RENTAL COMPANY

i guess its your own fault when you don't do the research on companies before giving them your hard earned cash. but really, why should we have to. It's just basic customer service that seems to have failed this company. It is as every employee has the book of excuses and are just spineless and taking advantage of their customers is the last thing on their minds. Getting the cash from their wallets in all that matters to this joke of a company. I mention this as we had an awful experience during the "perfect storm" in the mid-atlantic region over the 2012 halloween time. the guys at the 1800 were saying one thing and the office folks were saying another, resulting in an additional $150.00 in fees that should have not been added as stated by the rep at the 1800 number. They took advantage of THEIR guests during hard times and prayed on them for any extra charges they could due to the storm and most roads closed. Avoid this company at all costs.

Rented a vehicle at Indianapolis International and was quoted $46.88 for one compact car for one day, no additional coverage, no additional options, car was returned early, clean and fueled.

Received a bill for nearly double.

Calls to the Thrifty 800 number were pointless. Calls to the local franchise were answered and re-directed back to the Thrifty 800 number. A second number for the franchise was provided. It was called and provided a fast busy.

E-mails to the Thrifty website have been fruitless.

Had a terrible experience at you Dallas Fort Worth Airport location on Sunday October 14th with "Tina". She threatened to call the Police on me for no reason. I had a reservation with Thrifty but after I was treated so poorly by Tina a Thrifty manager I decided to take my business somewhere else and had to pay more because it was last minute. Brad Golde . If Tina worked for me I would fire her. P.s.s. I will never do business with Thrifty
