I have a Nikon J2 that stopped working on the 2nd day of an Alaskan trip, I have contacted Nikon several times trying to get the problem resolved but I think they must have the worst customer service department of any company I have ever dealt with. Can anyone tell me how to resolve issues with Nikon?

I purchased a Nikon D5100 camera and have had it since last May (2012)..It has not been used that much and now I found out the image sensor does not work...The warranty ran out this May and this is almost a $900 camera....
I thought the company would stand behind their product...Canon does-my daughter had exxcellent service with them...No...there is nothing they can do..so dissapointed.
So now I have a almost brand new camera that is useless since I had to save forever to buy it and cannot afford a large bill to get a camera fixed that should have lasted more then a year..
I can see if it was my fault but this is an internal problem...nothing I caused..
I will let people know never to buy a Nikon...they do not stand behind their product!!!!

I called on a Thursday morning. A customer service rep answered the phone right away. No wait. Didn't have to press a lot of numbers before being connected to a live person.
Customer service rep was knowledgably and friendly.
Over all good service!

I wrote a review and comment yesterday 6/3/13 regarding Nikon camera warranty problems and customer service. By coincidence when I returned to the office from a trip yesterday, the camera was indeed returned and finally repaired despite all their internal communication problems and the significant delay. Their problem is poor communication and lack of timely feedback, but the overall comments yesterday are not actually relevant now since Nikon did in fact finally honor their repair warranty. Thus, please delete and remove my comments posted June 3, 2013. Please confirm same by reply email. Thank you.

Caveat emptor with Nikon regarding their total warranty system breakdown. Impossible to obtain legitimate warranty coverage or any reasonable customer service response. I sent the camera and all the required documentation pursuant to the written warranty terms, and only received a non descript bill for more than the cost of the new camera. After considerable time to learn more details, no one knows or can help. Even the camera has apparently disappeared. Again buyer beware.

I sent my Nikon Binoculars to the service center as told in the original box in January. Originally told they could not locate the technician working on them. Then I was told they never received them. After two weeks of calls with no results, I had the Post Office track my package. They showed my binoculars were indeed picked up for service by the Nikon service center. Third week of calls still no help from Nikon. I have been passed from person to person having to repeat situation each time. Can someone please help me. It is obvious my binoculars were lost at the Nikon service center. I would just like for them to be replaced. I know they think they can put me off and I will forget about it, but I can't afford to loose these. I am a repeat customer of Nikon products. I have 3 cameras, 3 rifle scopes, and have purchased 3 pairs of binoculars, ALL NIKON.

I am so disappointed in the company right now. I will never recommend their product again.

I purchased a Nikon Coolpix S3300 camera in May. I have sent it to repairs twice for the same problem. It will not charge the battery. The service department sends me back the camera and a new battery, which is nice until the battery drains again and I cannot charge it. So I have invested in a broken item that cannot be repaired and the only answer Nikon can give me is SORRY..........

Aparently this is common in Nikon, people complaining about service. I sent my camera, less than a year of use, to be repaired. Every time I tried to take a picture, it turns off. I sent it and about a month later it came back, clean but having the same problem...Nothing fixed! So I paid postage and it came back doing the same. I called costumer service and a guy named Julio, was so helpful, he told me that his supervisor will be sending me a postage label, so I can send my camera back to be properly repair. Seven days waiting and nothing from his supervisor. And calling to costumer service is painful, last time I was on the phone waiting for a representative for almost an hour. What a shame! Never in my life I will be buying a Nikon. All my friends and family will be knowing about the service that Nikon offers.

My Nikon is only 2 years old and the shutter will not open. I don't have the receipt as the camera was given to me as a gift. I can't send it back. I expect a camera to last more than 2 years. My camera was probably $100 and the service rep made the comment that other people have much more expensive cameras that have broken. I will never buy any Nikon product again.

The people who use the Nikon Coolpix L120 there are chances of photo loss due to many reasons like, accidental shutdown of camera, firmware flash failure, firmware malfunction etc. In such kind of situation how will you restore nikon Coolpix l120 image files? Don't worry you can use the JPEG file recovery software. You can download this software in free demo version and you can recover lost photos from Nikon Coolpix L120.

Here I am again, just got my D80 back, with the problem not fixed. The power switch was messed up during a shutter mirror repair, and I sent it back where it was not known what to fix for almost a week, then they took another week and sent it back with the problem unrepaired. They needed to replace the switch but couldn't be bothered, so they squirted some WD40 on it, didn't even test it, or if they did they were clueless as to how difficult the switch was to move and how it should move. This is absolutely unbelievable from a company like Nikon. The reason we buy this equipment is for the quality of the product and the reputation of the name. I don't think I've ever had such shabby and unprofessional treatment from any other company of this stature. I'm taking this matter to small claims court and I'm going to request that Nikon be ordered to pay for a Canon of similar quality.

(as I sit here writing this I am approaching 30 minutes on the phone to the call center after 20 minutes on hold) I sent my D80 to get the shutter repaired and the tried to bill me $160 to "clean" the lens, which I had sent with it because I didn't have a cap for the camera body. I had the insight to call the corporate office rather than speak to the dimwits at the 800 number, and someone named Kimberly 631-547-4200 was helpful, and gave me a 25% discount on the actual repair. They shipped it back and the on off and shutter switch was frozen. I got Kimberly to email me an overnight label on 8/31. I sent it back and on 9/10 I got a letter, NOT a phone call or an email, asking what was wrong with the camera. Another call to Kimberly and was promised the repair would be expedited. It wasn't. And, I got emails from Kimberly to which you can't reply, what's up with that? , and when you go onto the website and request to email directly you get a message that you have to have an account, but I already did and was signed it, so I clicked on sign up and entered my user information and went back to the email page and it again told me to sign up first, totally in a circle. I just got off the phone from the toll free number and was told the camera was on a bench somewhere. I have filed suit in small claims court for $900 for lost income, I use this camera for ebay photos

I sent my MH-24 quick charger in for replacement/repair over a month ago and you people have not sent me anything except the email below. I am not happy about this and I want you to know that I WILL do everything in my power to either be compensated for the work I have lost due to not having a functional camera for my business THAT I PAID $900 for. or get my damn charger in my hands before next week. I am a very DISSATISFIED customer you people have not helped me you just keep telling me "oh well we'll have to email our service department.." NO! over four different NIKON associates have told me that and nothing has been done nobody has contacted me and I keep losing work. I want you people to know that I WILL GO TO COURT i have lawyer I already work close with and have discussed the matter with him and with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU so unless my charger is at my door by next week you people will have a hefty lawsuit on your hands that includes lost wages, and compensating me for faulty equipment. The integrity of your product is disgusting and you should all be ashamed. and so you know...I don't bluff.

I purchased the new P7000 to use professionally (I am the publisher/editor of the Stockmanship Journal that uses a lot of photos and videos). Due to various malfunctions I have had to return the camera for warranty work three times in the first year! What has become characteristic of the El Segundo Service Center is that they blame it on me (e.g., "user damage," "sand") and want to charge me for repair. The last time I sent it in they (i.e., a customer service agent from, you guessed it, the Dominican Republic) agreed to fix it warranty after much complaining. Elapsed time was three months. Then, unbelievably I received my camera which was in pieces; that is, they took it apart, did not fix it, and sent it back! I am totally fed up and disgusted with Nikon and will never buy one of their products again.

I have a 3 year old Nikon D90. Almost to the day, 2 months after the extended warrantee expired, the camera began to malfunction and I was told by my local camera shop that the shutter probably needed to be repaired and that I would have to ship it to a Nikon repair facility in California. I called Nikon to find out how to ship the camera and explained the problem I was experiencing. The service representative gave me instructions, which I followed. So far, so good.

Then, after a week, I get an email asking for proof of purchase. They wanted it faxed to them. Who has a fax at home? I emailed back with the details of where, when and how much I paid. Soon after, I get an email saying my camera is "grey market" and they won't touch it. "Grey market?" What are you talking about, I wrote back, I have the English manual, American plugs and cords, the box was original and in English, the camera operates in English - everything is original Nikon. I paid a lot of money for this camera. I wrote again, "how do you tell this is grey market?" I wanted to know, if it is based on the serial number, why they didn't refuse the camera when I logged it in for service online before I sent the camera. No answer. The only response from them is they will return the camera in WEEKS. This is unacceptable.

They actually told me to buy another camera through the Nikon store!!! Where is a lawyer when you need them.

I will NEVER buy another Nikon product. They refuse to service their own products, make spurious accusations, don't respond to valid questions about their procedures.... So, now all I can think is that they are going to destroy my camera.

I am relieved to read the comments below to find that I am not the only one having problems with Nikon. My husband and I purchased the Coolpix S6100 in December 2011. The camera will not charge; I called Nikon, was told to send it in AT MY EXPENSE so they could 'evaluate' it but to send nothing else (cable, battery, card etc). I have never dealt with a company that made you pay to send in their product, and insure it, that is under warranty. When I hadn't heard anything in 2 weeks, I called, was told 'it would be worked on'. REALLY??? They sent it back at the end of that week said it was a USB problem and not to use the charging cable 'if there is something wrong with it' as it would ruin the camera. How would I know this & why hadn't they told me to send the cable? Now they want me (AT MY EXPENSE AGAIN) to send the cable 'for evaluation'; when I argued, they rudely told me I had no other option. I have called their corporate headquarters 5 times, and all five times am transferred to a voice mail to 'leave a message' which they have not returned. WE WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NIKON ITEM, and I will make sure I tell everyone I can of this poor customer service treatment (as well as the physical problems with a brand new camera). I'll stick to my Olympus in the future.

The screws that hold the outer shell together all fell out.
After contacting and requesting replacement screws for my Coolpix S640 x2 I have concluded that their idea of service is a joke!
reference # 120718-000492
They wrote back stating something about broken screws and sending the camera in for repairs!
I asked foe 6 screws!!!!!!!!!!!

I went on-line to find a remedy for my Nikon S9100 that is now only six months old, gently used, and well maintained. I learned that it is common for this model to freeze up as I have been experiencing, and that I should remove the battery and memory card and charge it full; then it should work. It did this the first time about a month ago, then it worked intermittently after that until quitting totally last night. I can turn it on but nothing else. I have to remove the battery and then put it back in just to get the lens down. I called Nikon customer service this afternoon and spoke to "Laura." After I explained all the above, she told me to repeat the same steps. I explained that I did and got no different result. She then told me that I need to send it in and get it repaired. I explained that I am planning to use my camera on vacation soon and was concerned that I wouldn't have the camera returned by then. I also expressed my dissatisfaction with having to pay shipping and insurance to send it in for repair considering that this is nearly new $329 camera (the most expensive I have ever had by $200!) and there appears to be an ongoing problem with this model. I asked what other options may be available to address my vacation camera needs/return time, and the costs. She told me that there are no other options and that I would just have to pay for it and wait for it to get returned and she could not say how long that would be. I indicated that I think this is a very poor way to treat a new customer. She said, "sorry." I have had other brands of cameras for work and personal use including Sony and Cannon. Each cost far less, provided good photos with similar options and lasted 8-10 years without problems. I purchased the Nikon based upon a family member's recommendation from her 8100 model because she thought I would find better quality. I'm not sure that I have realized any significant improvements in photo quality and based upon information I have found on the internet, I understand that there are many others who also have similar issues with focus, clarity, etc. When I went on-line to see what others are doing about there problems including complaints about this camera freezing up, not to mention long delays in repairing it and problems with some of the same photo quality aspects as well. I called my local Best Buy where I purchased your company's camera, and although the helpful and friendly sales person indicated that they could not accept it as a return, THEY would be glad to take a look at it and be responsible for shipping and insuring it (at no cost to me!). I find this quite a plus for Best Buy and further illustration of the poor service Nikon is giving for their product and the inherent problems. I am quite disappointed and see no reason to make further purchases of Nikon products.

Horrible experience with Nikon. Just purchased N1 with two lenses, one of them was throwing error message on the second day. Instruction on the web said to send it to NY Nikon repair center, estimated time for repair 2 weeks. After 3 weeks it is still not fixed and some rude primitive told me that their policies don’t guarantee anything.
I suggest that we all write to their head office in Japan and let them know who they have working for them in NY office.

I usually don't post comments, but figured I would give Nikon the recognition it deserves for this one. I was taking pictures with my D3100 DSLR and after reviewing the picture there were spaces on it that were flashing like a shadow. I very quickly explained just that and the customer service rep, Jose, told me what to do and it took care of my issue. So grateful for his expertise. Thanks Nikon! It was the highlight setting that had been changed.
