Read the reviews below to see the experience other people have had when dealing with customer service from AARP.
My spouse and I already have membership and cards that are valid until January 2016. Why are we continuously receiving mail to RENEW? MY ACCOUNT NUMBER IS
MY NAME IS Brenda L. Hennigan SPOUSE--- Marvin (NMN) Davis
Have we renewed twice?? Is a refund due to us?
I just got my premiums for 2016 AARP Supplemental and Personal Health Plan(United Healthcare Insurance) and the rate will increase three times in 18 months. I called United Health (I live in Maryland) and they blamed in on Maryland Insurance Commission and that United Health wanted a younger insurance pool because they don't access United Health claims as much. I thought this AARP sponsored plan was for people over 65 years old. While AARP receives royalty fees, they should challenge these increases because we are on a limited budget. The United Health representative also told me that I got a discount so I would sign up and that discount will be reduced by 3% each year until I turn 75 (Seventy-Five) when there will be no discount. He went on to say that they are looking for a younger pool of policy holders. Can anyone in the Administration of AARP follow up on this?
I just tried to sign on for dental insurance through Delta Dental. The stupid question "where were you born" and I answered San Francisco, CA. The stupid system answered that there is not such place! That tells me you are REALLY dumb, because I am sure I was born in San Francisco, CA! I guess you don't want to accommodate any customers trying to sign up for additional insurance. I have the health insurance already. I also want to sign up for vision insurance. Guess i WILL have to go somewhere else for the additional insurance!
I am angry with AARP!

Our family of 6 recently vacationed 10 days in CA. We scheduled a Hampton Hotel in Hayward a sub of San Francisco. Am forwarding as that hotel would NOT honor the 10% discount posted in your AARP news publication. Am writing as our total bill for 2 rooms for 10 days was over 3M and that 10% would have been welcome and appreciated as we thought would apply. Your GREAT DEALS ARE NOT TRUE as we found out the hard way! Please advise and hope such can be reimburse to us or at least corrected. The Hampton Inn to contact is tel. . THANK YOU AND APPRECIATE AN ANSWER. DEED
I have asked for three years to please stop sending me info on life, health, and car insurance. I have enough and I feel I had to not renew my membership in hopes this would stop, it still has not. I understand people need these but after three years of me asking you to stop I need you to stop. I feel if you send me 2 requests a week at .49 cents each plus the paper ink and the people if takes to send these. You have wasted a lot of money more then I have spent on my initial membership. It seems like a total waste of money.
Purchased a Real Pad in January through your ad in magazne.I spent $189.00.. It arrived with a defective connecion.I mailed it to a N.H location..with a letter of explanation..Received a replacement with alot of personal information(banking GMail & photos.Called several tiome got an answering machine,I left message, No return call..Went to a Walmart store Girl connected me with a Richard Burga who was very nice received a fedex label to send back to NH Company ,,Called that office still no answer from a David,,spoke to a Kellie..Still do not have Real Pad.AARP should not back a product that is of poor quality and is over price.Since my purchase they lowered cost to $149,00 which is still too expensive..
What a run around... Hartfort double our rate and AARP reps can not help us.... Wow, where else can you make such an upcharge... Where is that AARP protection and assistance.?????
Beware! look at your auto bill and be aware that rates are Going Thru The Roof. Then you try AARP for help....
As a member of AARP for over 12 yrs. I wanted to let you know of an experience that I just recently had with Consumer Cellular.
I have been a Consumer Cellular customer for over 4years. I needed to upgrade my cell phone due to the fact that I was unable to get service inside my home which I consider very imortant.
I ordered and received the Envoy and called to have it activated only to be told by a Rep that I had signed and agreement with AT&T & she could not activiate my phone. Tried to explain that this was impossible! She was very rude and told me that I would be billed from them as well if CS activated my phone. The next day, my husband checked with AT&T office and ws told that this was inaccurate info. I have written to CS 2x with no response. Think you should know about this since you always advertise for them. Needless to say, I am very upset.
How are you helping Senior citizens if you give their phone numbers out to "3rd party services" as your rep told me.? Getting phone calls because my mother-in-law's mail comes to our house as she is in a nursing home. No one was given permission to use our number, don't know how you got it. When I get to be a senior citizen I want nothing to do with AARP after getting bombarded with 2-3 ""Senior Alert" phone calls every day. Terrible thing to do to seniors.
I keep getting a bill for my dues, I paid my dues7-11-2014, check no.8115 for 16.00 and was not given credit for this, still getting bills to pay my dues . So you should start my membership when you send my card not July because I was not given credit! Shirley Hammonds
I want to let someon know...my AARP does not expire until October and I have just received my second billing for renewal 6.2.14 You can remove me from your bogus renewal forms Please set up an opt out of the mailings that your members receive so we can stop the junk mail
One more question... Will my membership dues and omit the the $ 7.12 for the AARP magazine and the AARP Bulletin.
Very unhappy with AARP. My membership expires in May 2014. I started receiving renewal notices five months ago. Isn't this a bit of overkill. And not just once. I have received four separate mailing including six new plastic cards, lost of paper. Can't you just send one mailing and maybe just a postcard reminder. And why start six months before my card expires. I am so tempted to not renew. I feel this organization is wasting money (not just mine). And I feel harassed. I request a response. And, in the meantime, if I cool down, I may or may not renew. Don't nag me.
I too receive a lot of mail from AARP/ renewed my membership with mine probably 4wks ago and still have not received new cards. at one time I sent a renewal check in for both of us, and he not knowing this sent a check in for both of us. we didn't get a refund from the double payment. NOW, I AM wondering if I should keep a membership with AARP.
How about explaining this to the public... Why are you all wasting SO much money sending AARP Membership renewal notices EVERY MONTH for 6 months before the expiration date!? Then you raise our ins rates! Haven't even had my insurance for 6 months yet and already you raised the rates! Also all the junk mail you send out is absolutely ridiculous & wasteful! YOU'RE IDIOTS! I am cancelling and joining AMAC! I'm going to plaster this info on social networks, about your wasteful spending & raising insurance rates on seniors!
I have been a member of àarp along with my fiance for 3yrs.Never had a problem gettin ahold of them, always have been very helpfull and kind i dont know how all these people can complain this way.aarp keep up the good work!;-)!! Ricky Anderson South, Daytona, Fla.
I have been trying to contact someone but I'm having a heck of a time please help! I joined AARP but I haven't gotten any ID cards or any real information on my acct. I payed the dues. I am trying to find out on health insurance but I don't have medicare. Can anyone please help me with this? My name is Lois Swope. I don't even have an acct number of a membership card. I signed up and payed way back in OCT/Nov 2013.
United Health Care
Need I say more? AARP recommends United Health Care by lending its good name to their list of preferred insurance providers.
UHC doesn’t care about senior as exhibited by their policies. I certainly cannot recommend them based on my experience. UHC disempowers their employees making them powerless to override company policy even when the policy is absurd. UHC have determined that their employees lack the common sense to override policy even in obviously absurd conditions. They don’t care about their employees or customers. Bigger profits is the name of their game.
Here is my story, judge for yourself.
I have an ulcer on my foot. I am a diabetic. The ulcer is infect. I saw a podiatrist who prescribed anti-biotics and cultured the ulcer. He told me that I might need to take two different antibiotics depending on the outcome of the culture. Sure enough, I received a call from the physician to pick up the second antibiotic and was ordered to take both antibiotics simultaneously. This required a renewal of the first antibiotic. When I called the Drug Store to reorder the first antibiotic, I was told that it could not be renewed for 24 hours. I explained to the pharmacist that I did not want to make two trips to the drug store and asked that he get an override. United Health Care would not override the 24 hour delay imposed by their own policies. I called and asked that they reconsider. I got a firm NO! I thought to myslelf, surely someone at UHC is empowered to override the 24 hour delay. Well, I thought wrong! I asked to be transferred to a supervisor who also said NO! I was told they could override for “vacations” but not for Rx’s renewed to soon.
This ridiculous policy puts me at risk since the foot should be elevated and avoid irritation until the sore closes but UHC does not consider the issue to be serious enough to allow their agents power to override a 24 hour delay in reordering an Rx. AARP should not be lending its good name to UHC. Their attitude toward ‘seniors’ is evident in their policies. Look elsewhere is my recommendation. I know I will.
