I was expecting an apology for my rental from 1/27-2/4... I rented a Mitsubishi Mirage, and when I dropped it off on the morning of the 4th at LAX (full, but that's another matter), I asked the woman at the rental drop off to notate that I had been unable to lock the car for the last four days of my stay in Los Angeles.

Instead I got a letter telling me that when my car was dropped off, the tank was noted as "full" by the Hertz employee... Which it was. But when the car was serviced, it needed 7.83 gallons of gas to be rented again. And I was charged over $77.00 to fill the tank.

This is AN IMPOSSIBILITY. I filled the tank about four miles from LAX.

The Mirage only has a capacity of NINE POINT THREE gallons. How can a car that was read as full by both me AND THE HERTZ EMPLOYEE at LAX suddenly need 7.83 gallons of gas?

I have now called and emailed the address that the customer service rep gave me (TWICE!) with the receipt from the gas station. Now two weeks into this scam and have not heard back from Hertz. This is complete fraud. I am pursuing every legal option available.
