well they charge my ck account witout my permission, I've been trying to contact someone in customer service for days & I've waited up to 30 minutes. mind u I've been a member since it was cld Jack Lalanne. very disappointed!!!

Bally's is horrible. They will continue to suck money out of you when you want to cancel your membership. They will never let you talk to a real person at customer service. You have to write letters that are never acknowledged. I imagine that there are So many angry people that's why no one answers the phone Or wants to take phone calls. Do not join this club!!!!

Corporate office, for santitary reasons please hire better cleaning company to upkept the women's locker room and bathroom commodes located @ 159-26 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica Queens NY by Parsons Blvd. The women's bathroom isn't maintained correctedly. The locker room floors benches and dressing room floors and bathroom floors needs to be disinfected daily twice a day. The floors are never spotless nor disinfected since a member last year. The toilets commodes are not disinfeced. Lack of toilet tissues. Paper towels should be in the womens locker room for personal wipe ups since cleaning staff isnt available. For health reasons, it is imperative the the locker room is well kept. I gone to the Bally's on Queens Blvd, and the women's locker room and bathroom's are kept better. Please help!!

I think Ballys is the worst business I ever dealt with. Back in 1994 my nefew was 17 years old and he wanted to join the gym but because he was 17 they told me I had to sign him up and I had to be responsible till he was 18 which was a month later. Almost a year later My Husband was dying of cancer and I just bought him home from the hospital they called me because the $30.00 for that month was due and I explain that my husband was dying that i will take care of it. They called me the next day I told them that I already spoke to them about it. They have the nerve to to tell me that they have to get paid some how. They even manage to get the money out auto matic from my account. They kept calling and one person i spoke thought he hang up the phone and i hear him telling his co-worker that I was a not so nice name. Every once in a while they still call. Before my nefew join I spend over a thousand for my membership at that time for the year and his member was alittle over 500.00 it was a special. Don"t you know they call me today on the anniversary of my husbands death. I'm soooo angry. My nefew did paid.

I recently had my membership transferred to LA Fitness in Tucson, AZ. I cancelled the membership in writing in May, but continued to be charged fees to my checking account which resulted in NSF charges. In looking back at my checking account, I noticed that Bally's had been charging me for two memberships dating back to at least August of 2011. When contacting them for a refund, they would only confirm that I had been charged. They told me that any refund would have to come from LA Fitness. The problem with this is that LA Fitness only took over in December 2011. LA Fitness is in the process of correcting double charges for the past 6 months. But Bally's isn't stepping up to the plate, despite the fact they screwed up. LA Fitness only took over the mess.

i was harrassed on the first day of my personal training day. i recieved unappropiate test messages from my personal trainer. i spoke to two of the managers on sight. The managers were not much help. do not go to the san leandro, ca location. eric (manager) david(manager), and jimmy (personal trainer) were no help.

Former Bally's Fitness Center at San Bernardino, bought by LA Fitness





Edward, at Ballys Customer Service, helped me clarify my anniversary date, which LA Fitness had short-changed me by two months. Edward (I think he is in the Sanata Ana, CA office) was very helpful in getting the information for me, he certainly deserves much credit. Thanks to Edward for taking the time and effort to resolve my issue.

This company is totally made up of rude individuals. After a month of trying to speak to a manager because their customer service people are programmed to say only certain lines, I get a voice mail message from what may be a manager. However, when I call her back at the number she provided, I get the same department of people who call themselves customer service and they cannot transfer the call nor do they know who this person is. Then they continue their usual rudeness. Now I still cannot talk to someone who is in a postition make decisions and assist in the issues that continue to escalate.

I am a longstanding member of the Bally's club located in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, N.Y. So far this season, the club has lacked air conditioning and proper ventilation. I was advised by club personnel that the matter would be addressed immediately after the Memorial Day weekend. Now more than two weeks later, the conditions at the club remain oppressive.

No one is able to provide any or reliable information concerning the club's deplorable environment. I e-mailed the corporation over two weeks ago and have received no substantive response.

Nor is this the first time the club has had no air conditioning. For all or substantial parts of the past two summers, the club also lacked air conditioning and proper ventilation. How am I supposed to use the club with air temperatures surpassing 90 and at times exceeding 100? I am paying for a membership that management is effectively denying me use of. I am 63 years old am not taking the risk of exercising under conditions that are hazardous to my health.

My numerous complaints to the club and letters and e-mails to the corporation have all fallen on deaf ears. No responses received and no corrective action
taken. I have asked Bally's to refund the balance of my current annual membership and plan to take my health club business elsewhere. I am encouraging other exasperated members to follow me. As for individuals thinking of joining Bally's for the first time, think again. Do yourselves a favor a run as fast as you can somewhere else. This is a thoroughly disreputable organzation.

The male manager at 945 Kings highway came in the female sanua unannounced and asked me to step outside due to the fact I was properly dressed I wanted to know why? He refused to say and I said I'm not moving until you tell me why. He said you have on a plastic top. I had on a sauna suit top which is sold at Model. He had me undress in front of him and client and threaten to have my membership cancelled if I did not follow his instructions. I wzas walking with a cane, the floor was slippery wet my cane slipped twice I was using the cane because I had goit. Later he told me it was ok to wear the sauna suit top. Men wear the same top he never confronted them, other women wear the same top he never confronted them. I now have a stress pelvic frature and have not been able to work for 6 weeks. I contacted the district manger by mail and he never responed.

Today the showers are not working and have not worked for at least 3-5 days every month.
The front desk people like Alex are mean and do not help at all.

The Shower area is dirty and smells. When I ask about all the lockers with lock that are on overnight I am told they do not care.

I am fed up with the treatment I have received at Bally's Total Fitness in Colorado Springs South Academy.

this company is so worthless they just want to take your money and dont care bout the person. i had to pay $1300 to collections because my ballys account was charged so much interested and i couldnt get out of it. When i signed up the agent lied to me and said it was a month to month program. Now my credit score is bad because after i paid of the $1300 they never submitted to the credit bureau that i paid off this amount. So its still effects my credit score. I am trying to get a hold of them over the phone but no one seems to help me.

I've been a Member of Vic Tanny and Bally since 1983. My Membership is the Premier.
The last time I was at the Club they told me that I could not use the Club anymore until I signed a three page new contract. I disagreed and walked out. I contacted an Attorney a few days later and was told to start a Class Action Lawsuit, contact the Attorney General, etc.., I did find my old Vic Tanny Contract and other papers. We'll see what happens when I approach them again. This is very sad for many loyal members like myself. United We Stand. Divided We Fall.
Let's join together and complain until there is an about face. It's unfair to all of us.

I am in absolute rage with both Bally's and LA Fitness. I have called both companies trying to cancel and get a refund back and it is impossible! Both parties are blaming each and put me through a wild goose chase. This is the most wrongful type of charge I have evere seen and can not believe that any company would do this and have complete disregard for customer service. Why is there no law suit for this??

It seems my issue is the opposite of most of yours. My local gym is still Bally and the closest LA Fitness is 3 hours away. It has been impossible to get Bally to transfer my account back. It seems they only transferred accounts to LA Fitness and never any back to them.

the worst company ever, slow to respond, no one ever picks up the phone, usually like 10 mins or more waiting for anyone to pick up the phone. terrible service, terrible, gym, dirty as hell, treast memebrs like shi#t, no wonder they bankrupted. they should disappear. they just stole my money from by credit card, which i cancelled long ago. no refund policy. just bullsh#t company. don't join.

Me and my husband have been member since 1999 and I was told to pay $10 for replacment of card because I can not find my card. For every little help they want to charge you. $20 for change of name. They do not appreciate your business at all they are here to make money on you and rip you of. Bad service policy, difficult to reach customer service. It's so frustrating.

Wow! I am so glad I failed to go to the gym for the past year and decided to get back into it (no, not resolution, just a coincidence ;)

I had NO IDEA this debacle was happening until the Bally website transferred me to LA Fitness. I had no way of logging in there so I searched The Google.

My blood began to simmer up for a boil when I saw everyone's horror stories. But another anonymous posted this: http://lafitness.com/pages/announcement.aspx

I went over there and got right in. They have my lifetime contract, all my information, everything. It's a transferred lifetime membership from 1980.

Then I read someone say LA Fitness is trying to squeeze more money out of old contracts so I went back to their website and found I'm still down for $18 a year (don't have a heart attack).

So it seems I'm all good, I guess until I go down there and try to get a new membership card.

We'll see. In the meantime, try that website if you know your basic vitals (name, phone number, zip & email).

ps. I've had my headaches with Bally, but only before I bought a second-hand contract. Trying to buy a fitness contract brand new is where you get into trouble. Try to find some older person trying to just get rid of it--I got lucky with mine in 1997. Life will be easy street after that. I also learned as a teenager 20+ years ago from my sister who worked at a bank to NEVER sign up for gym memberships on a monthly plan. Life lessons.

On 1/3/2012, I went to the Bally Total Fitness Gym in Rosemead, CA after returning from my holiday vacation and was notified that Bally (in So CAL) was bought over by LA Fitness. I have been a regular member at this gym for the last four years, since I relocated to CA from New York.

Unfortunately, this buy-out has affected my five and half years as a Bally Member (Enrolled Date: 9/22/05). As soon as I checked-in at the gym, a LA Fitness staff member notified me that I need to contact Bally’s headquarters (tel. 866.402.2559) because my membership needs to be transferred to LA fitness. In addition, my member information is NOT in their database, because I opened my account at the Kew Garden branch, when I lived in New York back in 2005.

I called Bally’s headquarters and spoke with Juan. He claimed, as of a couple of weeks ago (December 31, 2011), Bally is no longer transferring Bally accounts to LA Fitness Account. He gave me two options; 1. Give my membership to someone else (for a $20 fee) or 2. Get a refund for my account as of December 1, 2011.

I can not express the anger and frustration that I currently have with Bally. Why should I be affected by this buy-out? I paid my dues like everyone else. I’m not looking for any special treatment. I simply want to continue going to the same gym that I’ve been going to for the last four years.

So, unfortunately, I requested a refund.
I spoke with a Bally’s Customer Service Rep from Member Support Center: (866) 402-2559, last week. She told me, "the credit was submitted (as of 1/10/12) and there’s nothing that she could do. Please contact your bank". She also sent me a copy of my Bally Membership Transaction History file which displayed a refund amount of $97.44.

I contacted my bank and the representative told me, they have no records of such credit on file.

I’m still waiting for my refund! Uuuggghhhh!

Ballys and La Fitness have screwed me! La fitness bought my Ballys. I won a free year membership from Ballys (good until Oct 5th 2012) and suddenly La Fitness "can't find me in the system". I have been run around in circles on the phone...La Fitness says its Ballys problem and vice versa...supposedly my membership was transferred yet they refuse to send myself/La Fitness proof. Noone will provide me a place to bring proof of my membership.
Yet another corporate buyout ...

I have been trying to speak to someone from customer service for the last three days. I call the(866)number and all that happens is the estimate waiting time is ten minute, and no one ever come to the phone. This does not make any sense.

LA fitness in Dec ok'd my membership. They checked and found it then. Now Jan 13th they can not find it and tell me that I am not a member. I have been a life member for over 25 years. No one will help me. In Dec PAUL NORRIS,principal for LA fitness contacted Patch and others to annouced that LA Fitness had decided to honor the life-time memberships. Read this on Abington Patch {PA} Dec 23. {time to honor memberships Paul Norris}Some member get membership and other don't?????? H R F

I purchased a membership to bally in buffalo NY. I have been living in CA for 10 years. The Ballys here in Culver City was bought by LA Fitness without any letter from Ballys etc. They told me I would have to buy a new LA fitness membership for 100 down 29 a month. Ballys I paid 184 a year. I also have 12 personal training session not used. I called for a refund of my membership and personal training. They said 5-7 business days for refund to my card. Lets see.
Otherwise class action-and my sister is a CA lawyer.
