I just want to update the maps on my Garmin. It should have been an easy process but the first page says it will cost $89 then when i go to checkout I'm charged $159. I tried to send an email to Garmin but NO reply yet after four days. I'm begining to wonder if it's a bogus email address. Certainly having doubts about parting with $159. After reading these comments I wonder if I'd actually get the updates. Has anyone else paid for updates? Did it work? L

I don't know why everyone is having problems with Garmin customer service. My GPS Map 276C is 8 years old and still working. On numerous occasions, I have called Garmin for technical assistance. Sometimes I get right thru; other times I have to wait a while. But every time I have call with a problem, the technician has been polite and, above all, helpful enough to solve my problem. I hope it continues.

Unbelieveable! Got through in under a minute. Rep set up an exchange. Now let see how long that takes.

No matter what time you call you will get a message stating your call will be answered in 30 minutes....What a joke! Does Garmin know what Custom Service is??? I don't think so!!

You can find all sorts of great reviews on Garmin products... what you do NOT hear is how AWFUL their customer service is. Of ALL the companies I have ever dealt with, Garmin is the WORST.

Their Cstomer Service is largely unavailable and unresponsive. If you do manage to find your way through a maze of deflectors preventing you from any straight-forward communication then, you will be VERY fortunate if you ever receive a meaningful response or a response at all.

HORRIBLE Customer Service at Garmin!

This company should be put out of business. No support. Called 800 and got recording no longer in service called 913-397-8200. Got recording wait time over 30 minutes call back some other time. Good luck.

unable to reach tech support via telephone, wait time unacceptably long for help. Tried several times at different times of day. Same problem.

Garmin just do not reply and that is all there is to it! They are a bunch of scammers when it comes to downloads. They take your money - and lots of it, and then become dumb. So rude and dishonest, I will not be recommending Garmin to anyone.

I tto purchased a nuvi 1450LMT about six months ago. It no longer works, won't recharge, nothing! I look extensively at Garmin's website and there is no number for customer service WHY IS THAT? They simply don't care. I will be one to report them to BBB. Someone needs to speak up about this sort of thing. It's riduculous. Why should we have to hunt around for customer support number? Extremely dissatisfied with Garmin. Never again!

I simply haven't found ANY customer service.
One is left flapping in the wind with any issue a customer might have.
Not at all impressed with this type of service to it's clientele

And why do you not call 800-800-1020?
Garmin supports all its units, even long after the warranty has expired with free online (e-mail) and free phone support.
If you drop something, then it's your own fault. I have used Garmin units for years, and a 2 inch drop has not even put a scratch on any of them.
I read a lot of stuff in forums like this one, and I think it is time you take responsibility, starting with honesty.
So, shut up, if you screwed the device up, and pay up. Unless you're not man/woman enough to admit your wrong doing. Then keep being a complainer, like those in the stores at customer service counters, who believe if they complain long and loud enough they get a freebie.
If a device is defective, call them up, send them an e-mail. I have yet to encounter an unfriendly agent, that is unwilling to help. That does not mean they will give you a new unit if you dropped it. That is not helping, that is enabling - what we try to avoid with our kids, right?
Go to TomTom, Magellan, or any other company, and see how loong they support their devices with free online and phone support. Apple - ranked #1 supposedly - stops supporting any unit that is over 5 years old with repairs; and there is no free phone or e-mail support for a computer from them that is out of warranty (with AppleCare up to 3 years). Garmin supports my Garmin GPS III. You can check when that thing came out.

Pretty disappointed with Garmin. Very loyal customer, being a pilot and driver, have spent thousands with them. Have an aviation handheld, model 496, which I have used, literally, about 5 times in the ~4 years I have had it, becuase just after I got it, wound up investing in an installed PAIR of Garmins in the plane I fly. Went to test 496 recently, in prep for selling it. It worked fine. It slipped out of my fingers, and fell ~ 2 inches to my desk, and went dark. Company wants to offer me FLAT RATE REPAIR for $400 for this. Amazing. Hard to believe it is that fragile, and hard to believe that given that history, that they are doing nothing to stand behind the unit. I hope posting here gets some attention from someone in the company who is interested in doing the right thing.

I just bought a nuvi 2555lmt. No owners manual was included in the box. I'm extremely frustrated with my efforts to download a "Free Owners Manual". I am able to locate the manual, and I can browse it on line. But, I can't download a copy. WHY IS THIS? It should be a very simple thing to do, but someone has gone to great lengths to stop me from getting what should rightfully be mine.

This sucks! $38???!! The Garmin Nuvi is under warrantee. That means free! I already paid for it!

I brought a up-date of maps called "numaps lifetime, and was told when I finished with buying and paying for the maps that I would receive a e-mail shortly. The "shortly" has turned into 2 days. What happened? The order number is 100603990672 and the date that I ordered them was 11/09/2011. My credit card shows that 89.99 was charged to my account. Still waiting Jerry P)hone number is 512-876-4339

On an internet search for help, I got "Just Answer" but they wanted $30 to give me any help. I bailed out of that rip-off and then hit this site that had the Garmin 800-800-1020 number. I called that, got a very nice lady immediately, and she spent 45 minutes helping me with my problem. I ended up getting an RMA number for an exchange of hardware. She even determined the manufacturing date from the serial number and gave me coverage under the one-year warrantee even though the Auto GPS was not registered. After reading so many complaints about Garmin I was prepared for the worst; instead I got the best. Their service, patience, and knowledge was comparable with the best I have ever experienced (i.e., Apple). I never found that 800-800-1020 support number on the Garmin site, but it sure worked for me. Maybe Garmin is actually getting better. BTW, I called first thing in the morning.

I was shocked when I sought technical support on line for my Garmin Nuvi and got JustAnswer. It would cost me $38. to help me fix my problem. I called 800-800-1020 (after pick up, dial 1 to speak to a live person). I got right to a customer service associate and she fixed my problem immediately. I am satisfied with the service I received on the phone - but I was really mad when I got JustAnswer. ET

This litany of customer comments is simply shameful. I'm sure that the execs at Garmin simply don't care because they sell their units quickly with good profit. Personally, I think this is a misleading product; units furnished in a language which one doesn't understand and they want $30 to show me the fix; which is not in the product manual. What's going on? Where is the Better Business Bureau? Good luck!!!

I can't believe they put me in touch with an outside on line service, one that you have to pay for a service that should be covered by the warranty.

Wait on phone is 35 minutes. Not helpful.

My children gave me a Garmin for my birthday in June. Need help.

I just bought a Montana 650T gps unit. It is supposed to be the biggest, best, and most rugged of their units. It is by far the least rugged far as the screen goes. After a day out on the trails with my GPS in a ziplock bag, to keep dust out, in my side pouch on my bag I found my screen scratched all the way across. A GPS that is supposed to be the caliber it is and everything else but the screen built to withstand abuse is unacceptable. I called their customer service to find out what they recommend to get the scratches out of the scree and they could not recommend anything other then me accepting my brand new screen is scratched to mediocre visibility. The best solution the arrogant customer rep I talked to was me pay to ship my brand new unit to them and pay $180 to have the screen replaced. Needless to say after spending that type of money on a unit and receiving such horrible customer service I will NEVER buy a garmin again. And I will be looking for a corporate number to reach garmin to give them a larger piece of my mind over their products and lack of customer service

I was having trouble updating the map on my automotive gps. I found the technician I spoke to be very patient, courteous, and helpful. My problem was solved in less than three minutes.
