I also had to call RD because they sent the books to my grandma. She received a bill for books she thought were free. I called the 800 number and was transferred to the book department. I spoke with someone whose English sounded fine. I let her know how unhappy my grandma was and the rep was very accommodating. We got to keep the book which had already been opened (so we didn't have to pay to send it back) and the account was credited. Like others who've posted, this book was a requirement of a sweepstakes Grandma entered. What a joke; they take advantage of the elderly. I am happy with my customer service experience and its results, but disgusted with RD and won't be ordering from them again. No wonder the company's going broke, with this type of trickery.

To all who have had a incident with RD here is another phone number to put on your list. Contacthelp.com is great, I got through to the Philippines immediately and asked to speak with a Supervisor, also asked for a number for the United States. Here's the number for all of you 1-800-274-6567, they are in Greenville, Wisconsin, I was able to converse with a ENGLISH SPEAKING AMERICAN. We'll see if this problem has been solved, which is the same problem most of you are experiencing. Good luck to all. My suggestion is that we send the CEO of RD a bill from each of us, what do you think??????

We received a FREE BOOK which I did not trust. I opened the pkg. and read the insert. I did not ask for the free book. Now have received the second book with what looks like a bill attached. Needless to say I did not open it and called RD to get info to return the book. We have dealt with RD for nearly 50 years and never before have these underhanded promotions been used. When our subscription to their magazine expires that will be it. No More!!! What ever happened to the honest company that we dealt with 50 years ago. What a sad passing!

I, again, received a billing for an item that had not been ordered. I went to the customer service contact and chatted with "jackie". Upon explaining that we had no idea why we were being billed and that we had not received the publication that purported to have sent us, they agreed to credit our account. I asked that our name be removed from all of their contact lists. They stated that would be done; however, they asked that we be patient because it could take up to five months to accomplish removal. What a scam!!!

I TOO RECEIVED SELECT EDITION BOOKS. I CALLED, 1-800-304-2807. THEY SAID THEY WOULD STOP SENDING THEM AND SEND ME RETURN LABELS FOR THE BOOKS. I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH!!!!!!
CUSTOMER OF 50 SOME YEARS!!!

READERS DIGEST, YOU AMAZE ME TO NO END!!!!!!

I am very careful to not accept the free gifts or subscriptions and read their renewals closely to make sure no books are involved. I only want the magazine. However, they start dunning you for renewals about 7 months after you paid for the last one. After several rounds of renewals you really have no idea when your subscription expires and they provide no information on the label or when you call CS to assist in determining this. They are very deceptive. I am sure long-time subscritbers not paying attention and elderly people are paid up 5 years in advance and don't know it.

This Readers Digest is a big joke, 2 years ago I bought a subscription from the girl scouts never received a single copy. A year later the scout leader informed me that I would recieve a 2 year paid subscription as they had talked to Readers Digest. Well I start getting a Large print and regular print Digest a month, called every month nothing was done. The last Readers Digest I got was in May 2010 now in the mail was my expiration notice for August. PLEASE TAKE ME OFF YOUR MAILING LIST AS I WILL JUST RETURN TO SENDER IF I RECIEVE ANY MORE MAILINGS FROM READERS DIGEST.

Oh, folks, it gets much worse. We have just discovered my 90-year-old mother has been buying books and CDs because she's been led to believe by the RD staff that doing so increases her chances to win. In fact, she HAS WON and they are planning her celebration and public announcement in July 2010. (Problem is the sweeps aren't until March, 2011.) Due to her health and age, she asked if they could change the location of the event to her city in Western Canada. Sure! They even told her to invite the local press if she wishes and all the friends she wants. I guess she get some sort of weak excuse in a few weeks to explain the postponement of this event. She also believes she's going to begin getting monthly checks. Worst of all, she's in telephone communication with a Maria Orisini who tells her all this crap. They also told my mom not to tell anybody about this because she'llb e disqualified (guess it's okay to tell them about the upcoming presentation party, though). Reader's Digest should be ashamed of themselves.

I had to call three times to get my address changed because customer care didn't understand English. I even said, "a as in apple, t as in toy." Was very difficult.

I just got off the phone with a guy in the philippines. I received books I did not order. He said that it show I enter a sweepstakes and I guess the fine print had that you had to buy theses books. Thats crap! I told him that I did not enter a sweepstakes. In order to snip this in the bud. I agreed to keep these books and send the $38.11 and I was told by Raymond that I will not receive any more special offers or sweepstakes from this company. The odd of winning are just about -0- and I certainly don't have the time to have this happen again. SHAME ON YOU READER'S DIGEST ESPECIALLY CAROL SLATER--THIS IS TERRIBLE, I MAY EVEN CANCEL MY READERS DIGEST SUBSCRIPTION. I tried cancel this on-line and never heard back via email about this.
